Giulio Cilona was born in Connecticut, USA. After moving to Belgium, he began studying piano with Pierre Feraux and trumpet with René Vanye at the age of 5. He started composing and improvising in his early childhood.
At 12 years old, he continued his musical studies as a “Young Talent” in the Institut Supérieur de Musique et de Pédagogie (Namur), where he studied piano with Fabian Jardon, trumpet with Antoine Acquisto and composition and harmony with Michel Déom.
He also actively participated in the masterclasses of Jean Fassina, Johan Schmidt, Kornelia Ogorkowna and Daniel Blumenthal.
In parallel, he studied organ with Jean-Luc Lepage, before becoming a regular organist in several churches in Belgium, and later playing concerts in important churches like the Basilica San Filippo (Florence), Chiesa di San Francesco (Assisi), Cathédrale Saint-Nicolas (Fribourg), Cathedrale Notre-Dame (Geneva), Basilique de Verdun, etc.
In 2011, Giulio was invited to join the Opera Studio de Genève where he works as a trumpet player, opera rehearsal pianist for singers, and as a continuist for baroque projects. Giulio has been awarded several prizes in the following piano competitions: « Andrée Charlier » Competition 2013, Prix des Jeunes de Verviers, Concours Cavatine, Concorso Pianistico Internazionale « Città di Crispiano » (IT), Concours « Rotary-Breughel », Concours de Piano de Liège « A.Grétry ». He has recorded two piano CD’s featuring the music of Prokofiev and Chopin, as well as some of his own works.
He has given several piano recitals abroad in France, Italy, Switzerland, Morocco, Mexico, USA, and played in important concert halls such as Théâtre de la Monnaie, Flagey Studio 4, BOZAR, Hasselt Cultureel Centrum, etc. Giulio also plays jazz and latin music, in groups in Belgium and Mexico.
His compositions include more than a hundred works for all type of formations, from solo to large orchestral works. In 2014, he was invited, as a soloist, to play the premiere of his own “Concertino” for piano and orchestra with the Europa Musa Orchestra and Emmanuel Niubò. He also played the Piano Concerto in F of George Gershwin with the KCB Symphony Orchestra and Norbert Nozy, the “Warsaw Concerto” of R.Addinsell, with the Limburg Youth Orchestra and Willy Claes, and Petrushka with Etienne Siebens. Some of his performances were diffused on EuroClassical Chanel.
Giulio currently studies piano at the Koninklijk Conservatorium van Brussel with Daniel Blumenthal and Hans Ryckelynck, composition with Jurgen de Pillecyn contrepoint with Kristin de Smedt, and orchestral conducting with Bart Bouckaert and Etienne Siebens.
He took part as an active participant in the NJO Orchestra conducting masterclass in Rotterdam. He has had the opportunity to benefit from the guidance of conductors Arturo Tamayo, Lucas Vis, Carlo Jans, Wouter Lenaerts, Jean-Marie Curti and Roberto Benzi.
